This weekend I finished by Side Bend form and cut out all my templates. I cut out the pieces then glued to hardboard so I would have permanent set. Bridge, Head plate, Neck and brace templates are shown sitting on the hardboard side template I made using Jesse’s drawing.

Well today cut out my top, back and sides. I am hopefully going to bend my sides tomorrow. I also worked on finishing up my body mold. I feel pretty good about getting my top and back glued together and cut out as this is my first build. The joints look really good (at least to me).

Well today I did my first side bends. Took me most of the day with setting everything up and waiting on the sides to cool down between heat cycles (86 degrees in my garage today). I am very happy with the results. I do have a couple of scorch spots (I hope they will sand out). Here are some pictures.

While I waited on my sides to cool etc, I worked on my top. Since my sander maxes out at 12″ Jesse advised me to take my side pieces down to .150 then glue up. I made myself a sanding stick to take the joined top down to .125 today.
My “Shop” is actually 1 side of my garage. I built a work bench (seen in my photos) and have all my power tools on platforms with casters so I can move them around to get to what I need. I have a Grizzly dust collector with a hose splitter so I have 1 4″ and 1 2″ hose that I switch between my tools. Here are a couple of pictures some are out of date.

I had to build myself a jig to cut my kerfing. Here is a couple of pictures of what I came up with.

Today I started gluing in the kerfing.

I made my own Rosetta. I cut out a circle from the left over back wood. I added a B/W/B to the inside and outside with super glue. Have a couple of flaws but what the heck it is my first try.

Well I got the rosetta inlay’ed into my top and the sound hole cut out. I am pretty happy with result so far. Next I will work on top bracing.

I did not like the original mold I made for this build as it is too heavy and kind of hard to maneuver. I took some time today to remake it. I took the original, cut off the corners and then re-sawed it on the band saw and then reassembled it. This is now like the one I made for build 8 and is much lighter and easier to use. (I needed a lighter steering wheel for driving the bus!)
